I am the mother of none, but the very proud Aunt to four beautiful children. I did absolutely no work to create them, but I will do everything in my power to help raise them.

Hello there fellow Aunts and Aunties. Welcome back to Auntieviews. I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Morgan Blair Mitchell. Morgan is a fellow blogger and Aunt who works full-time as a medical claims analyst. It’s her job to make sure that insurance companies pay for medical procedures so that patients aren’t billed. I think everyone would agree that that’s a pretty important job. So thank you, Morgan!  She didn’t always know that she wanted to be in the health care field, but once she started at her company she fell in love with the job and the people. I guess you could say her destiny found her.

Morgan has spent the last 22 years living in the West Georgia area. She loves living there because it gives her the opportunity to be surrounded by a diverse community of people. In her free time, she loves hanging out with her work friends. They’ll often all venture out together to Applebee’s, but sometimes they settle in for a fun game night! However, she also enjoys her quiet time alone too. That’s when she breaks out her books, pens, and paint or paint and gets lost in her own little world.

On the side, she blogs at Morgan’s Musing. It’s there at that she shares with her audience her awesome book reviews and latest playlist creations. If you’re a reader and lover of music, you’ll surely want to check out her blog.

In addition to being a working professional and blogger, she’s also a fellow Aunt to her 3 nephews, Bentley, Jayden, and Tristian from her step brother. She’s a long distant Aunt, living 3 hours away from her boys so they don’t get to spend that much time together. However, when they do get together, they go on adventures and her inner child gets a chance to come out and play.

Are you an avid reader looking for a good recommendation? I know I am. Her site is the perfect reference source for people like us. Be sure to check out what Morgan’s playlists and reviews!

The Interview:

What are the names of your nieces/nephews?

Bentley, Jayden, and Tristian

How long of you been an Aunt?

I have been an aunt for almost 4 years

How old were you when you first became one?

I was about 19 when I first became an aunt.

If you can think back to when you were first told you were going to be an Aunt, what were some of the emotions that you felt?  For example, pure excitement?  Anxiety?  Disconnected because it wasn’t real yet?

All of my nephews were already born before I met my stepbrother and when I found out that he had kids and I would be an aunt when our parents got married, I was really excited. I’ve always wanted to be the cool aunt and I was happy that I would get that opportunity.

Was that a difficult transition?

It was kind of a difficult transition with the older boys because they didnt know who I was and they weren’t quite sure where I came from.

Did they take to you immediately? Or did you find that you had to put in a little work for them to get to know you?

The youngest one was only a few months old so it didnt take much to get close to him since I’ve been around for as long as he remembers. The older boys did take a while to warm up to me, but they came around once they realized I was willing to play games with them.

Are you also a Mother or are you a childless Aunt?

I dont have any children of my own yet, but someday.

Is this by choice or by chance?

This is by choice. I’m almost 23 years old so I definitely want to wait a little longer and I haven’t quite met the right guy yet.

What do your nephews call you?

My youngest nephew used to call me “mornin” because he couldn’t pronounce my name, but now they all just call me Morgan.

Many Aunts are often looked at and referred to as second Moms to their niblings. Do you feel like that’s a fair way to describe your relationship with yours?

I dont think I’d necessarily fit into this description because I dont see my nephews very often.

What is something that you do to stay connected and bond with your niblings?

My sister in law keeps me up to date on the things they like so that I can stay connected with them and what they are interested in.

Since you’re a long distance Aunt is there something that you do in between visits to maintain your relationship with them?

Usually I just keep up with them on Facebook in between visits.

Where do you draw your inspiration from when choosing something to do?  For example, do you draw from your past and what you liked when you were growing up?

I do sometimes draw from the things I liked to do as a kid but I also think about the things that my little brother liked as a kid.

What were some of the things you do to build that bond with them?

They like to color, so I would make sure to take the time to color with them and play legos, or whatever they wanted to do so that they could see that I was there to hang out with them.

As an Aunt, what do you consider to be the biggest value you bring to your family?

Kindness and love

In general, do you think Aunts are important within to families?

Yes, absolutely. Aunts provide nurture and love in addition to friendship.

How was your experience with your Aunt(s) when you were growing up?

I used to stay with my aunt a lot when I was younger and she was my role model growing up.

What is one good piece of advice that you would give it to any new Aunt?

Spend as much time with them as you possibly can. They grow up so fast.

If you could go back in time and give your younger Auntie self a piece of advice but would it be? And why?

Enjoy the time you have with them in their earliest years.

What was one of the biggest difficulties you’ve experienced as an Aunt?  How did you overcome it if at all?

Being so far away. I try to see them as often as I can.

If you had to compare your role as an Aunt to one food what would it be and why?

Snickers bar: all the comfort you didn’t know you needed.
